Do Good!

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)

How do we “lay up treasures in heaven”? By what we DO. Our hope of heaven to come should transform our actions on earth now. Our hope encourages us to turn from selfish activities and to engage in good activities.

What good activities? Any good activity! Every good activity! If I am living in the hope of heaven, how will that change my actions toward my to-do list? How will I change how I interact with my spouse? How will I disciple my children? How will I support my friends in times of joy and sorrow? How will I minister to the needy, the stranger, the sick, and the lonely? How will I engage in the church? How will I perform my job at work? How will I improve my stewardship of the environment? How will I engage in the issues of the day?

The list is as endless, which brings us to this takeaway for today:

Every day we have countless opportunities to make the choice to do good.

Let’s do it!
