Doing good is a choice. Paul writes “be careful to engage in good deeds” (Titus 3:8). There is a distinct intentionality about this. If we just drift through life, we will let many opportunities for good deeds pass us by. We must be careful. Watchful. Alert. Ready and waiting to take action for God’s glory.
Every time we do, we will be storing up treasure in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21). And if the going seems long and the good deeds don’t seem to be making any difference in a dark world, don’t give up. Remember Paul’s encouragement: “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary” (Galatians 6:9).
Our hope of Heaven fills us with energy on Earth because we know that the timeline we are working on is an eternal one. We can wait for the harvest because we have the assurance that it will be outstanding!
