“My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.” – Psalm 63:8
I have always loved this verse because it reminds me that I am very, very secure in God. The image that comes to mind is this:
I’m in trouble and clinging to God desperately – hanging on for dear life. But as I do so, petrified that my grip will fail, I slowly realize that what I am clinging to is His thumb ... and the rest of His hand is cupped beneath me, upholding me.
I am tiny – but God is huge. All my strength is nothing more than weakness – but His strength towers above the universe. My grip might slip – but His right hand will uphold me.
There is both tenderness and strength here that soothes and heals my soul. I can almost see God smiling and hear Him saying, “Let go, child. You can relax. Trust me – I’ve got you.”
