Imagine that you received the following letter/email/text from a friend:
“Hey, there! I’ve got fantastic news for you – I’m going HOME! I absolutely cannot wait to see Dad and my oldest brother. We’re having a huge reunion with the best food and fun you can think of, and tons of people I haven’t seen for ages will all be there. And guess what: you know that constant pain I’ve been in for years? I’m going to be treated for it – and the cure rate is 100%! Wish you could be at this party, but I know you need to work. No sweat – we’ll plan one just as big for you. See you soon!”
I’ve received such a letter – and I suspect that you have, too. Not literally, of course, but the message is clear … you just have to read between the lines:
“But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.” – I Thessalonians 4:13-14
“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” – Philippians 1:21
