I love the sound of cicadas! As the trills rise and fall in the sultry summer air, it seems such a song of praise.
Yesterday, I actually saw a cicada singing. I don’t usually see them – they are an invisible chorus in the tree tops. But this one was in my garden, and I could watch him as he shook his rear end and that wonderful noise rolled over me.
But, what an amazing thing! All that sound from one little bug! Sure, he’s a fairly big bug as bugs go, but he is still smaller than my thumb.
The swelling sound made me glad – because I’m little, too. But I can take my cue from the cicada and make a “big noise” for the Lord! And as we all join together – singing, serving, loving, sharing, giving – we will make a noise that will split the air and shake the treetops and let the whole world know that our God is good!
Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before Him with joyful singing.
Know that the Lord Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving
And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His lovingkindness is everlasting
And His faithfulness to all generations.
